WAZIRABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif said on Thursday that both the president and the prime minister have disappointed the nation.

Sharif said that politics must be based on principles. “Of what service has the incumbent government been to Pakistan?” he questioned, adding that the government’s fate does not seem to be good. “We want the government to save people from despair and we want it to mend its ways,” he said.

The PML-N chief further said that the rulers should control corruption scandals, abide by the orders of the Supreme Court and understand the sentiments of the public. He urged the government to take up steps to battle poverty, corruption and unemployment. “The government is selecting the worst persons and is inducting them in the institutions,” he stated, adding that millions of rupees were being squandered away in the Pakistan Steel Mills, PIA, and OGDCL daily. “An amount of Rs300 to Rs400 billion is being wasted which should be secured because if it is it is secured then we don’t need aid from any other country.”

Talking about former president Pervez Musharraf, Sharif said that Musharraf abrogated the constitution and ordered the killings of Akbar Bugti and those involved in the Lal mosque mosque incident. “But the present government bid him farewell with a guard of honour,” he added.

Sharif also said that if he had been given the opportunity to complete his tenure as prime minister, he would have revolutionised the country.

NQ | 13 years ago | Reply No doubt, democracy is like an infant in Pakistan. It needs time to be mature and more refined. You cann't learn without making mistakes. I think think tanks need to sit together to redefine short, medium and long term goals. Restructuring is required in almost every department starting from Military to Beaurocracy and others. Political Parties must have elections within parties as in US, Canada, Europe etc. Leadership must change after some definite time. New Leadership has to be given a chance to lead such a great nation. Media can play a pivotal role in such a dire change. Hoping for the best and thinking about the poor's survival, I pray for my country and its great people. We love Pakistan. Hope Army would support institutions for Pakistan. God bless us all.
