The judicial tribunal, probing into the deadly operation at Minhajul Quran Secretariat, on Thursday directed the former Punjab law minister Rana Sanaullah and former principal secretary to Punjab chief minister, Touqir Shah, to submit their version of events on their affidavits by Monday.
The tribunal comprising Justice Ali Baqar Najfi asked Sanaullah if he had something to submit to the bench in writing. At this the former law minister said he needed three to four days for the purpose. The tribunal then asked both the accused to file their affidavits on Monday.
The Punjab chief secretary also appeared before the tribunal and justified the transfer of IG Punjab, DCO Lahore and other police officers and bureaucrats, just days before the incident.
The CS said a proper procedure was followed in which a panel of three officers submitted their recommendations to the chief minister who then ordered to appoint Mushtaq Sukhera as IG Punjab. “The transfer of DCO and other police officers was also a routine matter,” he added.
Appearing before the tribunal, the president of Lahore High Court Bar Association, Shafqat Mahmood Chohan, said he and president of Lahore Bar Association wanted to assist the tribunal to carry out this inquiry. He said regardless of political affiliation and status of any personality, they wanted justice for the victims.
The tribunal has also summoned, on June 30, all those injured in the incident.
