KARACHI:
The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday dismissed former military ruler general (retired) Pervez Musharraf’s plea for modification in its June 12 order.
A two-judge division bench – comprising Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Shahnawaz Tariq – dismissed the plea, which had become infructuous following suspension of their order of lifting travel ban on the retired general by the Supreme Court.
On June 12, the same SHC bench had suspended the interior ministry’s memorandum regarding placement of Musharraf’s name on the ECL, but suspended the same for 15 days to enable the federal government to appeal before the Supreme Court, if it so desired.
A day later, Musharraf had approached the SHC, pleading to reduce the 15-day time to five days so that he could visit his ailing mother abroad as soon as possible.
On his plea, SHC Chief Justice Maqbool Baqar had constituted a special bench to review the order. Meanwhile, the federal government filed an appeal, on which the Supreme Court on June 23 suspended the SHC’s June 12 order.
As the SHC special bench resumed hearing of Musharraf’s review petition on Wednesday, they were informed that the same plea had already been suspended by Supreme Court. The SHC bench dismissed the plea.
