Wind’s Fury: Rainstorm lashes southern Punjab

The electricity supply remained suspended in the area for more than 20 hours.

BAHAWALPUR: A heavy downpour across the southern Punjab districts late on Monday was a mixed blessing or the region. It lowered the temperature in the area but high winds that accompanied the rain uprooted hundreds of trees and damaged signboards; walls of many houses also collapsed. However, no injuries were reported. In Yazman, several signboards and trees were uprooted by the fierce wind, which also brought down an electricity pylon in Hassan Colony. Electricity supply remained suspended in the area for many hours. In Chachraan Sharif, walls of several houses collapsed in the rain, while some low-lying areas were flooded. Two electricity poles also fell down. In Rukanpur, Basti Darkhana, Misanabad, Haji Sardar Garh areas, the windstorm uprooted dozens of trees and electricity poles. The electricity supply remained suspended in the area for more than 20 hours.
