ANANTAPUR: An Indian court issued on Tuesday an arrest warrant for top cricketer and captain of the Indian cricket team MS Dhoni for "allegedly hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus," according to the Hindustan Times (HT).

A local court in Anantapur, in the Andhra Pradesh state, issued the arrest warrant after Dhoni failed to appear in court despite being summoned three times, the Indian daily added.

The police has been directed to present Dhoni in court on July 16.

The Indian captain came under heat after a controversial picture of his was published in a magazine.

Business Today, published in India, in its April 2013 edition carried carried an image of Dhoni portrayed as Hindu god Vishnu, with the caption "God of Big Deals".

The image also showed Dhoni holding products of several companies, including a shoe in his hand.

Subsequently, a leader of a local party filed a petition in court earlier this year alleging that the cricketer had "hurt the sentiments of Hindus by denigrating a Hindu god," HT reported.

Earlier in February this year, Dhoni, along with Suresh Raina, also came under the scanner for alleged spot-fixing after some classified parts of investigation into the star-studded Indian Premier League (IPL) corruption scam were leaked to a section of the Indian media.

@ Mega Thats exactly the kind of madness I am talking about. If somebody (and that somebody is not the guy who was killed) posted something offensive or if somebody (not the innocent men, women and children who were raped and killed) burnt the train, let the law take its course. Let the guilty be punished. Who gave the right to fanatic mob to kill innocent people ? There is uproar because the people who had nothing to do with the incident were killed. I hope you can understand this basic thing.

@unbiased the link was on news the technic attacked for FB post. The author was saying how wrong it is to attack someone over a post. It's you who is being judgemental. I never said communal rights are justified again your words. All I meant was there is a "action that's why they got a reaction" nobody is mad enough to attack someone without reason. Two days before they had protested in that area over FB derogatory post. Third day the guy was attacked. As far as congress well if you were indian you would have known. Have you seen their comments after attack? I guess not if you are defending them. A bomb blast targeting majority community by minority, its innocent victims taken into custody. 2. Nobody talked about train burn that killed Hindu pilgrims by them that resulted in riots later, but the riots that followed created uproar why the bias? Does terror or riots have religion? Is their blood more important than someone else's? Why one sided behaviour and injustice? This is pseudo secularism all crimes are categorised by them in terms of religion if its majority exploit, if its minority hide.
