44 injured in a blast at a shrine near Islamabad

Seven of the injured are in critical condition.

ISLAMABAD:
At least 44 people were injured in an explosion at a shrine on the outskirts of Islamabad late on Friday night.

According to hospital sources 44 devotees, including women, were injured in the explosion that took place at the Banga Sarkar shrine, in Pindorian near Shahzad Town, 20 kilometers east of the capital city.

A senior police official said that the incident occurred a day after a massive search operation conducted by Rangers and police in the city.

Officials said that 4kg explosive material was planted beneath the seating place of the caretaker of the shrine.


Of the injured, 35 were shifted to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) and nine to Polyclinic hospital. Seven of them are in critical condition.

Emergency has been declared at the two hospitals.

Dr Khurram, an official at Polyclinic hospital said that two of the injured were in critical condition.
