Approximately 2.6 million Afghan refugees are living worldwide, with a majority of them being accommodated by Pakistan.
The UN refugee agency reported today that the number of refugees, asylum-seekers and internally displaced people worldwide has, for the first time since World War II, exceeded 50 million people. The number, as of now stands at 51.2 million refugees around the globe.
Astonishingly, at the end of 2013, 50% of the total number of refugees were children below the age of 18. This is the highest number recorded in the past 10 years.
The massive increase in the number of refugees around the globe is a result of the ongoing crisis in Syria, as well as Central African Republic and South Sudan.
The major source countries of refugees are Afghanistan, Syria and Somalia, where as Pakistan, Iran and Lebanon host more refugees than any other country.
UN High Commissioner for Refugees, António Guterres said, "we are seeing here the immense costs of not ending wars, of failing to resolve or prevent conflict."
Developing countries host eighty six percent of the world’s refugees, up from seventy percent ten years ago.
A review of the past year by UNHCR indicates that if the 51.2 million refugees around the globe were a nation, it would be the 26 largest in the world.

You can get nice things out of these people, one can become for example like a movie star like Madu Bala from Afghanistan. From Myanmar can become a beautifull actress like Helen, a refugee from Somalie can become a star like Iman, the wife of David Bowie, a Syrian or Iraqi business men can become a power business company like Tata Steel who are Parsi form Iran, Iraq, Syria. I always felt when the Taliban was angry that a women type like Helen should dance Dil Doobah.
Over the years Afghan refuges have been infiltrating Pakistan. They are the one who brought crimes and guns to Pakistan. It was naive Zia ul Haq who let border down for influx of refugees from Afghanistan and never bothered to finger print them. Now we have mess on our hands and don't know how to get rid of them. We even don't know where they are any more.
They are not refugees. They are Muslims, they are your brothers.
@unbelievable:
Please read your History books again .....1/3 of Afghanistan entered Pakistan due to Soviet attack..At time Taliban, Haqqani, Hafiz Saeed, were not even in existence.. Just blaming Pakistan for every thing is pretty childish...!!!!
The picture tells it all. The internally displaced refugees sitting on a donated bag of food from UNHCR. We cant feed our own people how can we claim to feed IDPs or refugees. Over last 35 years the refugees have been a good source of earning for us. So take it easy on refugees my friends.
Have a heart guys....no body wants to leave his home, his land, his loved ones...itni nafrat ki bijai un k liye dua kar do that they all go back home safely
With the operation going on, it is perhaps the best time to start sending the refugees back.
If you didn't support Haqqani, Quetta Shura, and a host of other terrorist maybe the refugee problem wouldn't be so bad? Refugees are a bi product of conflict and providing sanctuaries has helped fuel that conflict.
Get rid of these refugees Let them go back to where they came from.
Is 180 million count less that we have to bear additional 2 million Afghans who are busy in sucking up local Pakistani job here
