LAHORE: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) MNA Tahira Asif was injured in an incident of firing by unidentified gunmen in Lahore, Express News reported.

It is not yet clear whether it was a robbery or an attempted target killing incident.

MQM chief Altaf Hussain while condemning the attack on MNA Tahira Asif demanded the arrest of the attackers.

Hussain said that the MNA had received threats for speaking out against terrorists in the assembly and had asked for security. However, he added, the Punjab government failed to provide her with more security.

Further adding that she was shot in her stomach and waist, Hussain said that the men on motorcycle opened her car door and asked her name before killing her.

According to senior MQM leader Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Asif was attacked in an attempted target killing. Police, however, have said that it was a robbery.

Siddiqui said that MQM workers are arriving at the hospital.

Express News reported that Asif and her son were followed by two motorcycles and was fired at. According to sources, her surgery has been completed and she is now out of danger.

The MNA was reportedly supposed to travel to the capital today.

President Mamnoon Hussain strongly condemned the attack and prayed for Asif's recovery, Radio Pakistan reported.

Information Minister Pervaiz Rasheed has also condemned the attack.

I wonder she must have done something to earn the ire of Altaf Bhai. I think the nation is fed up of these sharifs, zaradris or altafs. They are eating us inside out. Please wake up. rise above the prejudices of provinces, sects or language. choose honest leadership. If we can't..... then we must admit that democracy is not for us. Long live Pakistan
