KARACHI:

Three under-trial prisoners managed to escape from Malir District Jail on Tuesday, allegedly with the help of jail officials.

The prisoners were arrested by different police stations over their alleged involvement in street crimes and other cases. Shah Latif police claimed to have rearrested two of them while the search for the remaining one continues.

"It is their job to flee and our job is to hold them," said Malir jail superintendent Mirza Shuja Haider Baig, while talking to The Express Tribune. "We have arrested two and are searching for the remaining one, he will be arrested soon."

The prisoners were identified as Daniyal, Zahir Hussain and Sardar Tahir. The jail officials realised that the three prisoners were missing during the daily counting process at the jail, however, sources said that the prisoners escaped with the help of jails officials. An inquiry has been initiated to probe the matter but no case has been registered yet.

The performance of Police has always been questionable. Glaring example is the form of Airport attack. However, I am unable to understand why they are not reprimanded. Their role is so weak in controlling law & order situation in Karachi that I think this force is not worth-keeping. Airport Police are living in CAA accommodation without paying any rent & utilities, no security was beefed up despite it was a red zone area. The most surprising is, no media question them and all kept blaming CAA though CAA has nothing to do with security measures except highlighting grey areas which they have done time & again.
