The nomination is made after Justice (Retd) Ali Hussain Qazilbash tendered his resignation to the chief justice on Tuesday, citing health reasons.
Justice (Retd) Chaudhry Ijaz Ahmed had retired from the Supreme Court on May 4 this year.
According to a press note issued on Wednesday, Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry made the nomination under Article 175A (2)(iii) in consultation with two senior-most judges of the Supreme Court as required under the Constitution, after accepting the resignation of Justice Ali Hussain Qazilbash, a former judge of the apex court.
The meeting of the Judicial Commission has also been convened on November 6 (Saturday) at 10.30 am at the Supreme Court. The handout said letters have been sent to all concerned.
Meanwhile, Khalid Ranjha’s nomination as member of Judicial Commission has been challenged in the apex court.
The Pakistan Bar Council had nominated Ranjha as their representative in the commission last Thursday. The nomination was made after Ranjha emerged victor in an intra-PBC election.
