KARACHI:

The Karachi Zoological Gardens lost their only Bengal tiger on Saturday, four months after the animal fell ill.

The Bengal tiger, named Marcus, was between eight to 10 years old and had been critically ill for the last four months. Two teams of doctors were taking care of him. "He had several infections, liver problems and had stopped eating for the last two months," said Dr M H Pirzada. "We also conducted his post-mortem," he said, adding that the zoo officials and the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation took all possible steps to save his life. Zoo director Mohammed Faheem Khan said that Marcus came to Karachi two years ago from South Africa. They paid Rs7.1 million for him.
