ISLAMABAD:

The timeless charm of Disney characters enchanted a packed audience of both children and adults at the latest Oh My Gig! show at Kuch Khaas on Friday evening.

The platform aims to foster promising, amateur singers to perform in front of a live audience and had Kuch Khaas staff members garbed as popular characters such as Maleficent, Snow White, Quasimodo, Jack Sparrow, Aladdin, Scar and Pocahontas.

The familiar costumes, props and intermittent acting added another dimension to the musicals that featured home-grown talent.

Sprawled in the lawn and taking in the ambience of the music, the twinkling blue fairy lights and the large illustrated posters, the audience seemed to be enjoying the laidback experience with their loved ones.

Shezreen Shah, who had brought her little daughter, Izzan along, said, “The show was amazing not just from a child’s point of view but even we, as parents, could relate to the animations that we all have grown up watching. It brought back memories.”

Among the singers, she particularly commended Zainab Qaiserani for the maturity in her singing, her body language as well as her strong stage presence. “There is an enormous amount of talent out there and it felt like a lovely garden party,” Shah added. Her daughter was most fascinated by the blue-and-white princess’s costume worn by Snow White that she was seeing in real life for the first time.

Qaiserani rendered the Pocahontas theme song and “Poor unfortunate souls”, Shamayle Khattak sang “In summer,” Fatima Shakeel sang “Reflection”, Sikandar Vincent Khan sang “Kiss the girl,” while Iman Shahid sang the theme song of “Hunchback of Notre Dame.”

Moreover, the dance instructors Jasmine Arandia and Faizaan Ahab danced to the Pocahontas theme song, transporting many into the magical realm of richly-coloured dreams.

The music and dance extravaganza concluded on an upbeat, nostalgic note.
