Fashion Police: Slaying the colour red

Getting the styling-with-red formula entirely wrong this season is British model Naomi Campbell.

Summer 2014 in celebville has already witnessed a splash of colours. Red is always a topper when it comes to looking red-hot this season, provided it is worn right.

Getting the styling-with-red formula entirely wrong this season is British model Naomi Campbell, who bludgeoned the colour by sporting a fringed dress. She wore a not-so-glamorous outfit to the Glamour Women of the Year Awards 2014 held on June 3.

The charge sheet

Outfit

Naomi sported an Alexander McQueen Spring 2014 fringed gladiator-style black and red piece, which failed to impress on the red carpet. We get that she attempted to look ‘fierce’ in the bold outfit, but all she did was evoke ‘fear’ in us. The cut of the outfit doesn’t complement Naomi’s hot bod. The feather-laden dress is not a great choice for the sweltering heat. Unkempt and lacklustre, the dress is an absolute ‘nay’.

Hair and make-up

Naomi suffered from what we call the ‘tress mess’. As if her outfit wasn’t bad enough, her wavy hair made us facepalm! Her hair is lacking volume and the shine that could have possibly salvaged her look. We like that she has kept her make-up to a bare minimum and her skin is as radiant as ever.

Accessories

She wore a gold choker that was originally worn with the dress on the runway, which with this look is reminding us of tribal dance. She also wore a few chunky rings, which she could have done without. The statement platform heels would have worked had they been paired with an all-black dress.

Who wore red better?

While Naomi killed red by sporting the outfit, these glamorous girls were dressed to kill in red.

Julie Benz

The actor stepped out for the cocktail reception at the 54th Monte Carlo TV Festival in a vivid red-hued Rhea Costa dress. The part-lace, part-chiffon dress was as fabulous as fabulous gets. Exuding sophistication, she side-swept her jet-black loose waves to let the outfit do the talking. She stuck to the basics with her make-up choices. Upholding the ‘less is more’ mantra, she sported minimal accessories, which included a MCL ring and Le Vian earrings. The perfect touch to her look was her reflective platform heels. Wowza!

Bar Paly

The stunning actor-model flaunted an Art Deco-inspired glittery red strapless mini dress at Maxim’s Hot 100 Women of 2014 event. Showing off her perfectly toned body, she looked ravishing in red. With eyes lined in black and pink lips, she set the red carpet on fire. Although she played it safe with her black strappy sandals, and clutch and hairdo choices, she certainly didn’t disappoint.

Laura Vandervoort

Redeeming red in an Alice + Olivia outfit at the Maxim’s Hot 100 Women of 2014 celebration, the actor was an absolute head-turner at the event. She sported a mock-neck crop top and high-waist pencil skirt with a side slit from the label’s Fall 2014 collection. She flaunted a chic updo with a front poof, which let her dress take centre stage. She defined the shape and beautiful colour of her eyes with thick black liner. Her glowing skin and chiselled features are to die for. She carried a Rauwolf clutch and wore a few silver rings. And one can never go wrong with nude platform heels!
