In a recent interview with the Times of India, the Student of the Year star Sidharth Malhotra, who is busy with promotions of Ek Villain, spoke about about healthy competition, why he takes inspiration from Sanjay Dutt and his desire to work with Deepika Padukone.
Varun Dhawan, Alia and you are all on your third films. Any competition there?
Competition is not only with them, but with everybody else as well. I really liked the promos of Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya. I called up Varun and Alia to congratulate them. It’s a great trailer, it has got amazing energy. But healthy competition is always there.
There are reports that Varun is your friend turned foe?
No he is not. We called up each other and tried to have a fight, but we couldn’t. We even tried to abuse each other but started laughing. So these are just rumours, which I think people should check with us, before talking about them.
Which female actors do you really want to work with?
There’s a possibility I might do a film with Anushka Sharma, which will be great because I think she is a fantastic performer. And I would like to work with Deepika Padukone. If I get to share screen space with her, I will be overwhelmed. I think both Anushka and Deepika have the right height for me.
When we think of a villain, we think of Sanjay Dutt in Khalnayak. Did you take inspiration from him?
Yes, of course. Sanjay Dutt in Khalnayak or even the recent Agneepath, he is the bad mean guy, but amazingly he still has a likeability factor. What I learnt from him was that the overall feel of the character should be such that even if you are playing a negative character, you should never lose the likeability factor. After all, eventually it’s a love story.
