National Party's Handery Masieh was reportedly shot twice in his neck and chest outside his residence, according to reports. He was shifted to the Civil Hospital, where he passed away.
His nephew was also injured in the attack.
Masieh belonged to Mastung, about 40 kilometres southeast of Quetta. The MPA, said to be in his early forties, was elected in the Balochistan Assembly on a reserved seat for minorities from the NM-65 constituency.
Home Secretary Durrani confirmed the incident and said that a bitter exchange of words between the nephew of the MPA and the accused security guard, Mohuddin Baloch, resulted in Masieh’s killing.
Masieh was trying to breakup the argument when Mohuddin opened fire on him.
Police have arrested the father and brothers of the accused, who fled the scene soon after the incident. “He abandoned his official gun on the spot and ran away,” Durrani added.
Mohuddin, also a resident of Mastung, was one of four security guards provided to the assassinated MPA by the provincial government.
He was handpicked by Masieh himself. “In fact, Mohuddin was an old associate of Masieh, who was serving in an NGO established 10 years before he bacame an MPA.
The home secretary ruled out the possibility of any militant organisation’s involvement in the killing, and added the police is trying its best to trace the accused.
Although Masieh was a Punjabi Catholic Christian and not a Baloch, his name was officially changed to Handery Masieh Baloch when he joined the National Party.
He was known to take care of a church in Mastung, and would often preach Christian literature.
A two-minute silence was observed in the National Assembly for the deceased MPA. Various political parties including the Pakistan Peoples Party, Muttahida Qaumi Movement and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf condemned the killing, and the incident is being discussed in the National Assembly.
The deceased MPA's body is being taken to Mastung, where the funeral prayers will be held tomorrow.

@Jibran: you are saying that based on any proof? killer was with him for 10 years why not then? Thanks for adding into frustration, for pumping people against their Muslims countrymen and ya.. what about hiding your face under a pseudo name? any reason for hiding who are you so that I could know about your nationality, religion and or sect... Additionally, for sicks its a game, for me, its another person killed and for you its your pleasure to poke fun using dead bodies... shame
@Parvez: it was personal enmity not some religious hatred
Absolutely a shame.
Rest in peace sir.
@Pakistani, Maybe good for my health but definitely not good for the health of non-Muslims like this Christian MPA. A constitutional bar on occupying all top positions in government coupled with a complete lack of protection of one's life, property and religious beliefs and still non-Muslim minorities want to live in Pakistan, truly a wonder.
Indian trolls on the roll!!!!!pathetic
@hella: Keep wondering....it's good for your health
@Someone: The answer is provided by Najumuddin A Shaikh in the Tribune article "What does the Karachi airport attack signify".A quote from the said article states "There was, for instance, an almost hysterical note to the comments on the revelations that the arms the terrorists carried were of Indian and Russian origin. In the channels I watched, not one commentator mentioned the fact that in Karachi, one of the most heavily weaponised cities in the world, you can get guns and ammunition originating in any part of the world. Similarly much was made, while talking of how the terrorists had prepared themselves for a long stay, of the revelation that the terrorists were carrying blood clotting drugs, which were of Indian origin and which were carried by Indian soldiers when going into combat situations so that they could prevent excessive bleeding before they could get proper medical attention. Some channels showed the labels, which clearly stated that this medicine was being imported and marketed by a Pakistani company and presumably was available to anybody who wished to buy it from a local pharmacy but this was not highlighted in any of the comments" http://tribune.com.pk/story/721400/what-does-the-karachi-airport-attack-signify/
@Someone: Pak does import Indian medicines. India is the 3 biggest exporter of pharma in the world. The injection was legally imported by a Karachi-based distributor; the injection has the name of the Karachi importer printed on it. Go check the news. Ever been to Peshawar and its adjoining area? You can buy weapons of every make. AK47s are manufactured by Russia and were found in the Karachi attack. So Putin is involved, using your logic.
@water bottle
If the border is so scrutinised, how can Pakistani nationals with weapons infiltrate on Indian side?well, according to Indians. Wondering?????? I am.
The killing is very sad indeed and I think every Pakistani is feeling ashamed of what is happening to our minorities.
@Someone, you are being biased. The injections (Doxorubicin) that were shown on TV are in fact chemotherapy drugs used for abdominal cancers and Hodgkin's lymphoma.
@Someone: Actually those medicines were absolutely imported in Pakistan legally and the name of the Pakistani importer is visible. As for weapons, other than that Rangers saying they were Indian weapons, there is no proof that they were Indian.
@bigsaf: We can draw the line between the KKK and the situation in Pakistan. It's not mentioned in the USA whether a muslim is being murdered or non-muslim. Pakistan has given the due rights in the constitution for the non-muslims. Not all conspiracy theories are false, there is a vast foreign movement to undermine Pakistan.
@Salman: How come Muslims are killing each other. Please tell me where Yahoodi killing each other. Why in Pakistan so much chaos, turmoil, and mess.
@Zubair:
Only in the mind of those who are biased and weak in honest and transparent discussions about their societal problems, particularly with their minorities, and admitting them, eventually dealing with them. Of course it has to be done civilly and a forum to do it, which we don't create and just continue to deny, like many commentators above.
Its like believing if no one mentioned black Americans being attacked by white supremacists in the US during the 50's, the problems would magically disappear and unity would form and there'd be no 'polarization'. Doesn't happen that way....
All minorities leave Pakistan. In land of pure only Muslims will be left. Shia will kill Sunni, Pakistani will kill Afghani or Taliban. Already in Muslim world they fighting with each other. Irani can not stand Saudi. Look what is happening in Syria , Jordan and all over Muslim countries. There is upheaval Egypt, Muslim brotherhood can not stand other Muslim. Please, Christians leave Pakistan. History can witness a country divided within will exist for short period and then it becomes part of by gone era. I see and forecast Pakistan is heading to wards that. Unfortunately.
@Raj - USA:
:)
The best part was when Kaira said that it was a result of their KARMAS.
Welcome back to Hinduism Pakistanis.
I don't know why People are connecting this to Islam. Every one is Muslim, Hindu, Christian or any other religion, this does not mean every killing is religion based.
This incident was just a fight between two/three people and nothing to do with religion.
@hella: Wonder why anyone continues to live in Pakistan.
The best thing I have heard from Altaf Bhai is that he wants to eliminate word "Minority" from Constitution. Not only word minority but other each word which is used to divide Pakistanis into different categories should also be eliminated. We are Pakistanis first and foremost, therefore there should no division on any ground.
@Jibran mentioning Christian, Hindu, Punjabi, Pathan, Urdu Speaker e.t.c would lead to further polarization.
@Raj - USA: You want to talk about human rights, let's talk about human rights.

@Someone: This drug is used for many purposes. India is the only country in the region that manufactures quality drugs and supplies at lowest costs. China is far behind India in pharmaceutical industry. From where else Pakistan can buy drugs? US and European manufactured drugs are expensive. Pakistan imports and has to import most of the drugs as local manufacture is negligible. Pakistan cannot even manufacture polio drops.

Was he killed because he was a Christian? Or, because of an argument? What agenda did Qaiser Butt and journalists at Express Tribune have when they could manipulate every killing into "Muslims are zaleem" talking point?

Watch Pakistni TV discussion "Kyun" - June 13, 2014. Here is the link: http://www.awaztoday.tv/News-Talk-Shows/59285/Kyun-13th-June-2014.aspx
They show the label on the drug repeatedly. The label shows that that the drugs were imported and marketed by by: Al Mirza Pharma (Pvt.) Ltd., Shafi Court, Karachi, Pakistan. Qamar Zaman Kaira said that Pakistan imports many drugs from India and this drug was imported by Al Mirza Pharma (Pvt.) Ltd., Karachi. The terrorists have purchased it from Pakistan and not that India supplied it to them. Mr. Kaira also clarified clearly in the same TV talk show that Pakistan has not and could not supply any proof to India of its involvement in Baluchistan. All that Pakistan’s PM die was raise some general concerns regarding the Indian Consulates in Afghanistan to Indian PM Mr. Manmohan Singh during their meeting in Sharm el-Sheikh. Mr. Kaira said that he is was the Information Minister of Pakistan at that time and they he knows fully the the discussions between India and Pakistan. He said that Pakistan did not have any proof. The intellectual capability of the anchor Arshad Sharif is all visible when he asks is Pakistan government is going to take up with India the matter of Indian drugs found with the terrorists. Take up with Indian government what? Why Pakistan is importing this drug from India????? Watch how the so called Defense Analyst, Retired Air Marshall, Sahid Lateef is trying to wriggle out and hide his shame.
@ABKhan: Regarding the rapes in India, it is a crime and those who commit these are treated as criminals. These crimes in India are committed in isolated places. Whereas in Pakistan, the hindu and christian girls are kidnaped and brought right to the homes of muslim families and ll members of the muslim family, including its woman folks and also the neighborhood assist the rapists and also praise them. The courts protect them and also the Chief Justice praises the rapists. As we have read in many reports that after five or six months of continuous rape of the girl with the holy book in her hand, she is sold off to brothels. In Pakistan, rape is the religion and also the requirement of the religion. It is praised and promoted. Everywhere else it is a crime. The muslim men who kidnap also wear Rakhi (a sacred thread worn by brothers to signify brother-sister relationship) according hindu customs (may be even praying to Baghwan) to convince the girl that they are her brothers. After convincing the girl that he is her brother, the muslim boy / man kidnaps and rapes her. Muslims of Pakistan have no problem with this misuse of religion and to make it worse they assist, support and praise it. Read the hundreds of reports published by human rights commissions and many governments like Canada, UK., etc. Here is one titled "PAKISTAN: Jihad to convert Hindu girls to Islam rages on" where the Pakistani muslim boy ties Rakhi and rapes the hindu girl. http://www.humanrights.asia/news/ahrc-news/AHRC-STM-136-2013 Yet Pakistanis makes it a big point and say that Mumbai attack terrorist Ajmal Kasab says Baghwan instead of Allah.
@Someone: We may have the worst human rights here in India but we go after one an all who commit them. That to me is 'Shinning India".
@FedUp: Pakistanis have some nerve to talk about the plight of Indian Muslims !!
But Indians obviously have the nerve to give lectures on human rights because India has the world's best human rights record and is a shining example of perfection. Shining India and shining Indians shining others with their shining intellect ;)
@vinsin @Weird: So of all the weapons, drugs and other items of the world that end up in Pakistan, terrorists will only use Indian-made weapons and Indian-made factor 8 injections? Miraculous co-incidence? Not convinced.
@water bottle: Bhai ppl like someone are indian strategic assets we shld not correct them. Infact I would say TTP , jamat e islami PTI are all Indian agents I fact even the great hafiz saeed is a indian agent lol
One after another crime. Police have arrested father and brother of Accussed, Under which law.. And why..?? Do Injustice to make more criminals.
@Farhan:
You have a point.
But you see, when the country is in such denial, it becomes important for the media to expose the whole truth and especially that part of the truth which can be denied.
Like you are denying here.
@MSB:
Read properly, the brother and the father of the accused are arrested.
You sound like one of those Indian trolls only here to spread lies and malign us Pakistanis.
I don't understand why the headline says "Christian MPA", why not only write Balochistan MPA. Using his religion as a tag means you are wrongfully trying to connect his religion the reason for his death. Many Muslims/Pakistanis are killed because of arguments. Why not take it a regular murder and don't throw a hint that its a religious persecution because you don't have any evidence yet. Pakistan is facing fallout of security. The civilians are becoming target of crime and terrorism, so please take it a case of murder until you know the complete facts. Moreover I am not denying the fact that Pakistan is a dangerous country for minorities. The draconian laws deliberately added, made them a second class citizen on some grounds. But in this case, I think it is as a murder, with the intended target being the nephew of the MPA.
@Someone
It is particularly important in this case to point out that this MPA was Christian. It is called standing up for minorities and 'the weak' in our society. This is the vision of Islam and the country founded in its name, Pakistan. Also, If you are worried that this would give the peaceful (silent) majority a bad name then this is just what they deserve.
@Someone: says "Can you still clarify what Indian weapons and injections were doing at Karachi airport? Pakistan doesn’t import those items, and Pakistan’s borders with India are highly scrutinised, meaning such Indian items can’t be smuggled very easily – unless it is through Afghanistan. Do you have an answer?"
Yes. I do. Its Modi, the magic man! Its all his fault.
@Someone: Check this post to see how deliberate misinformation was spread by Pakistani media. Contrary to what you said, these medicines were imported by AJ Mirza Pharma Pvt Ltd, Karachi. http://www.pakpassion.net/ppforum/showthread.php?203769-Karachi-Airport-attacked-by-Militants&p=6858087#post6858087
@Someone: Pakistan Import Indin medicine and manufacturing and distribution rights. http://tribune.com.pk/story/721400/what-does-the-karachi-airport-attack-signify/
Terrorist gets those weapons by looting weapons bunkers in afghanistan, Indian Kashmir, old british indian weapons, similiar are the cases for russian and american weapons. No country ever politicize terrorist attacks as pakistani do. Pakistani are a confused soul and lack critical thinking.
@hella: I'm not Pakistani. But from what I know, non-Muslims have a right to live in Pakistan, and Pakistani govt have a duty to protect them.
@Someone: use internet : http://pakbiz.com/profile/ALI-And-Company08/ANTI-HEMOPHILIC-FACTOR-Viii_PID5193.html
@Someone: Injection are available in karachi. You can also read the label on it and also search on the net. You can go to peshawar market and buy the gun that you want. India and Pak fought lot of wars so there is lot of guns on each side of the war.
Pakistanis have some nerve to talk about the plight of Indian Muslims !! In a country where attacks on minorities (Christians, Shias, Hindus etc) and their places of worship happen often, it is surprising to the average Indian reader that Pakistanis can point fingers at India. There is a famous saying which goes along the lines of "People living in glass houses should not throw stones"
@Someone: Looks like 'someone' has identity issues lol, I don't rely on religion or nationalism to give me an identity, have the moral courage to call a spade a spade. Our 'peace loving' Muslim brethren are raging a war against the state killing innocent people in the thousands so they can legalise child abuse amongst other brutalities from Nigeria to waziristan. They won't stop until all the minorities are eliminated and we are back in the Stone Age.
My dear Indian trolls, Yes the situation for minorities is not good but who is telling this to us? Indians??? Lol .........first look at your country not even Hindus themselves are save there.......... You guys keep raping everyone and then come and give moral lectures on Tribune. The people behind Gurjrat genocide should first set their house in order before advising others.
Another Indian sponsored attack.....:p WTF why the father and brother of victim arrested???
@Desi: If you have a credible source, give it. Googling for blogs and other internet trash does not help. I repeat, how do these Indian goods make their way into Pakistan or Afghanistan? How can these goods be smuggled across a heavily manned India border?
Nothing is going to changed... Why the father and brother of accused are arrested????
@water bottle: So you've chosen to get away with personal remarks instead of clarifying. What's in the water bottle?
To even sustain an argument you expect a minimum level of IQ from the other side. When bloggers on here point their finger at Modi when, in bold headlines, the Uzbeks have claimed responsibility, you have to wonder. My answer to them is: Yeah, we did it. What are you gonna do?
@Ali: This tragedy has nothing to do with Islam. The M.P.A. misbehaved with his bodyguard and got killed. The words MINORITY, ISLAM, PAKISTAN is only yellow journalism and people like you start dancing on their tune without knowing real facts.
Its open season on minorities in Paksitan. Ahmedis, Shiaas, Hindus Christians, Sikhs all have one choice to make - convert or kabristan. The guard who killed Dr. Baloch will now become a national hero. He will be showered with rose petals and lawyers (the very people empowered to defend the likes of Dr. Baloch) will take out processions in praise of the murderer. And Pakistanis still think they have the divine right o lecture Indians on Modi, tolerance and secularism. Nothing has changed in Pakistan and nothing will change.
@water bottle:

@someone You are funny. But your attitude is the exact reason for the downfall of Pakistan.
The title of the news item is very appropriate because the MPA was killed most likely for the crime of being a Christian.
You Paks profusely salivate and identify the religion even if there is a mosquito bite in India. Hypocrisy=Pakistaniat.
@Someone:
Look, you are the kind of person who says it's black everywhere despite standing in Sahara Desert at 12 in the noon. In English such people are called totally blind.
My answer will not satisfy you. Why don't you google and find out what your own honest analysts are saying. Don't listen to the following people:
Hamid Gul, Sheikh Rasheed, Zaid Hamid and Mubashir Luqman (I heard he quit TV).
@someone weapons are smuggled and pakistan is at the top of it. regarding Indian Medicine, Your Fata and NW are full of Smuggled Indian medicine. They are there because your own medicines are very costly. Google "Indian medicine in pakistan"
Very distrubing story but i would like to say that after Indian election Modi became PM at that time most of all Pakistani media cry for Muslim minority in India but they never look in their own country where minorities are living in danger will media take these story can Mr. Zaid dare to tell to his PM as butcher
The MPA was shot by his guard. Maybe he was shot becuase he was mistreating the guard. Or the guard had not been paid. Why include that he was a christian.
@water bottle: Your comments about celebratory firing and cricket matches are irrelevant. Also, we're not talking about Pakistani-made AK47s, we're talking about how Indian-manufactured weapons made their way into Pakistan. It's not rocket science to identify the make of a weapon and its origin.
And btw, those factor 8 injections are not available in the market. They're for military use, and are used by Indian Army in frontline combat.
Sorry but you have not given a satisfactory reply or managed to answer the question I asked.
It is another sad news. This MPA was shot only because he was a Christian. It is another slap on the face of those who call Mumtaz the governor's killer a hero, especially that stupid lawyer in Rawalpindi Christian community has contributed in the growth of Pakistan. Christian officers have sacrificed their lived in defending the country. Shame on those who are trying to do genocide of Christians.
@Someone:
"Pakistan doesn’t import those items, and Pakistan’s borders with India are highly scrutinised, meaning such Indian items can’t be smuggled very easily – unless it is through Afghanistan. Do you have an answer?"
I cannot clarify your doubts because I am not the commerce minister or his secretary.
However, I will tell you the following based on Pakistan's own analysts - the honest kind.
1) All made weapons are available in Pakistan, especially Karachi, since you need to fire in the air if Pakistan wins cricket matches.
2) Also, India doesn't even manufacture AK-47s.
3) Also in case you didn't know, country-made AK-47s are sold on the streets in Waziristan and FATA.
regarding the medicine...
4) There is no evidence that those medicines are made in India. These medicines are used by Indian military, like they are used by many other military.
5) Most importantly, according to your own analysts, these medicine also had the shop details (or some other details related to the retail sales) of Pakistani (maybe even Karachi, I'm not sure) shops.
@water bottle: Lol bro there is no point being sarcastic or honest.....all u will get from Pakistanis is oh it is one of incident and more over india has rapes. So it is likes indian rape woman we kill rape and abuse minorities.
@rksingh: Yes there are. Get out from under your rock and go meet some Muslims.
Wonder why non-Muslims continue to live in Pakistan.
@water bottle: Can you still clarify what Indian weapons and injections were doing at Karachi airport? Pakistan doesn't import those items, and Pakistan's borders with India are highly scrutinised, meaning such Indian items can't be smuggled very easily - unless it is through Afghanistan. Do you have an answer?
@Salman: You do realise that by ridiculing your own religion, you are ridiculing yourself too (if you identify as a Muslim, that is)? How about stop with the self-hating and just condemn the attackers without bringing your own identity into it?
@nazarbaaz: @Zubair: @Someone:
He wasn't killed for being Pakistani, or being an MPA. He was murdered because he was christian. Otherwise, we have the pseudo democrats like Shahbaz Sharif, Nawaz Sharif, Hamza Sharif, Ishaq Dar, Ch. Nisar, Rana Sanaullah, all of whom claim to be more Pakistanis than the others. Yet, not a single attempt on them.
I think Pakistan has crossed the point of no return.
Also, police have recovered the gun used for killing.
It had the following words:
1) MADE IN INDIA.
2) JAI MODI (in Devnagari).
Islam is a religion of peace and this has to be another 'yahoodi' conspiracy to defame our 'peaceful religion' lol
You mentioned 'Christian' as if you're trying to make a point.
Wah ray Musalman!
An MPA got shot there is no need to sensationalize it and add it is christian MPA. The press just does this to make news and attract readers.
Very sad. People, you may but please do not connect with with sectarian issues to develop more so called religious unrest.
Other news reports have titles like 'Balochistan MPA' 'Pakistani MPA' killed, while ET uses 'Christian MPA shot dead.' Grow up ET and stop adding religious dimensions. You're only helping the terrorists by adding an angle :/
no slow news day in pakistan...
strongly condemned the kill of aforesaid MPA. Big conspiracy to sabotage peace in Pakistan. May Allah protect Pakistan. Pakistan Paendabad.
.....and the assailant managed to flee the scene of the crime......SAYS A LOT. Those that are promoting this version of Islam...........are doing the religion a grave dis-service.......and are ENEMIES OF THIS COUNTRY. Making Mumtaz Qadri into a hero.......was a deliberate act against the State. Shame on the State for nor nipping this evil in the bud.
