DI khan jailbreak: Govt orders fresh enquiry
The prison was said to house several Taliban militants and members of banned sectarian groups.
The government has ordered a De novo Enquiry into the attack on Central Prison DI Khan in July last year during which around 250 prisoners, including high-profile militants, were set free and around 10 people killed. A De novo Enquiry is undertaken when a previous one is deemed deficient and the entire process is started afresh. According to an official notification issued on Friday, Environment Secretary Dr Hammad Uwais Agha will be the enquiry committee’s convener while BISE Malakand Chairman Fazli Rabbi will be its member. The notification states that the committee shall have the mandate to fix responsibility on acts of omissions and commission in express terms and also give its findings within two weeks for further proceedings in the matter. An enquiry committee formed in August 2013 to investigate the incident reportedly submitted its report to the chief minister who shelved the document. The prison was said to house several Taliban militants and members of banned sectarian groups.
