The Sindh University Institute of Sindhology has honoured the late writer, researcher and historian, Ghulam Rabbani Agro, by publishing a book on his life and contributions.


The book in Sindhi, titled ‘Dour Ba Oda Supreen’ (Faraway, But Near to the Beloved Heart), is a compilation of articles by 45 literary figures.

They include Dr David Cheesman, Inayat Baloch, Sirajul Haq Memon, Dr Ghulam Ali Allana, Dr Fehmida Hussain, MPA Mehtab Akbar Rashdi, Madad Ali Sindhi, Dr Ghulam Muhmmad Lakho and Gul Muhammad Umrani, among others. The twice recipient of Tamgha-e-Imtiaz died in January 2010 at the age of 77.

Agro wrote stories about Sindhi life, biographies of Sufi saints, authors and historians in Sindhi, Urdu and English.

He served as the director-general of the Academy of Letters in Islamabad and was a member of many literary organisations.
