KARACHI:

The Sindh High Court (SHC) appointed its official reader, Ashiq Ali, as a raid commissioner to recover a man from the allegedly illegal detention of the police's anti-car lifting cell (ACLC).

Headed by Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi, the bench also issued notices to the prosecutor-general, Sindh IG, the ACLC in-charge and SHO to file comments by June 12.

Mahbooda, a resident of New Muzaffarabad Colony, had complained of the unlawful detention of her son, Qayyum, who was married on May 18, this year, and the ACLC staff took him into custody from his house on June 2 along with nearly 34 grammes of gold and Rs90,000 cash. Since then, he has been in custody, she said. The petitioner alleged that the police officials are demanding gratification for his release. The SHC official will raid the police station, recover the son and get him released on personal bond, if found there, and produce him in court.
