In a press conference on Tuesday, the ambassador also said Russia had agreed to sell the helicopters to Pakistan to assist the country with terrorism and the security related issues.
Earlier this month, Russia was still holding talks with Pakistan on the supply of the combat helicopters, and had lifted its embargo on the arms supply to Pakistan.
"Such a decision has been taken. We are holding talks on supplying the helicopters,” head of state-owned Rostec, Sergei Chemezov said, adding that the negotiations were about Russian Mi-35 Hind attack helicopters.
Russia has long been the largest supplier of arms to India, which is the world’s top arms buyer.
But Moscow’s move to supply Islamabad came as New Delhi is seeking to modernise its armed forces’ ageing hardware and has recently chosen to buy arms from Israel, France, Britain and the United States.

Guys..MI-35 is both transport and gunship heli at same time..no other heli is available in world with these features at same time.....Pak Army needs these Heli's to route out insurgency from Afghan border
@unbelievable: 1. Mi-26T2 and CH-47F is not attak helicopter. 2. Russian military tech at this moment is reborn because military industry is not limited by money (thanks to Mr. Putin). 3. Russian superiority you could see in Georgia, where one Mi-24 destroyed military column. More than 300 soldiers have been killed in 5 minutes (video is available on YouTube)
@Zaid Hamid: mr zaid i tell u a thing that russia is a gud frnd of india not only bcz of buying weapons from each other. instead they are making weapons together like pak and china doin (made JF 17b fighter jet ) and pak has no profit after buying weapons from russsia ( MI 35 ) as india has them already. Russia is dependent on india in the sector of weapon dealing.
@ Fauzan Sohail: Surely ignorance is bliss, spend trillions on defence without even realising the output is still nill. What kind solidification is rendered by our defences, that apart from china border Pakistan has been ambushed repeatedly on ALL other borders. at lest spending on metro bus is more or visible to masses, Where as extravagant and inefficient resource allocation by our defences is drifted away unquestionably.
More helicopters, more commissions, more plots, more of every thing, ZERO war won, overrun every government. Way to to Pakistan's Finest!
@Chachoo: u r so out of tune, ur birth was wastage of time and resources.
@Chachoo: You should di some reading because you have zero knowledge and information on what Pakistan is manufacturing. I will not waste anymore of my time to tell you about that.
Russia is surely an unreliable weapons exporter. India just needs to throw a couple of billion dollars worth of arms procurement package and Russia would be ready and willing to shelve this MI-35 deal with Pakistan in no time.
Pakistan is better off with AH-1 series Cobra attack choppers for the time being since the army has years of expertise operating this type, albeit that the Cobra is fast approaching absolesence. In the long run, PA should look into the possibility of acquiring Turkish Aerospace / Augusta T129 Mangusta as this type would be available free of sanctions and other political compulsions. The other possibility worth looking into is the Eurocopter Tiger but it is a very expensive proposition.
@Chachoo I am just curious to know that if there are Engineers available for PKR 100,000/Per Month?
the purchase should be financially transparent or that would be hmm...yummy sweet commission...
Pakistan have deep routed hate for kafirs but still need to accept things from China, Russia, USA.
That's Good news for india. This will help them forge relations and cultivate our interests by Russians vis via them. Russians can try taming trouble maker to get it line and cooperate with all neighbouring countries. @professor india can never ever be india vs russia. On latest front all business ,investment etc from western country, European Union of Russian investment are going to be moved to indian economy in few months. They should be a friendly gift from Russia. All Russian left over uzbec, kazec etc etc nonsense is on our military's shoulders to take care. so gist them, Russia.
@Professor
"India, USA, NATO, Israel v/s Pakistan, China & now Russia"
Question, are you high? Russia is India's oldest ally. Even China isn't really your ally. It's using you against India but the moment the business between India and China grows enough, China will start pressuring you to stop bothering India as well. Not to mention, terrorism is spreading in China, Islamic kind. They will soon start tracing them back to Pakistan as well, probably already have.
Russia is now moving closer to china and pakistan due to russia's deadlock with america and european countries over ukarine crisis. Pakistan should benefit from this situation and should step into this deal after deep thinking.
@shim: No I dont have a Stockholm Syndrome. Also I belong from a small village in Northern Punjab Pakistan and let me tell you the day Any Member of Taliban will dare to enter into my village then i will be the first one to took out weapons. Kindly dont underestimate the Civilians but Stop Blackmailing us on the name of Security. Also I am talking about Self Reliance and Indigenous Development but it is a Propaganda in your eyes??. Do you know this Helicopter's tech is more than 40 years old?. I am a Tax payer of Pakistan and i have every right to ask why you want to buy such technology with such a price tag.
Let me tell you the same mantra like yours have transformed Pakistan into a Security state. The real Propaganda is actually run by the people like you who blackmail every Pakistani should shut up and dont even ask what our Army is upto
How the alliances have changed over the last 20 years. India, USA, NATO, Israel v/s Pakistan, China & now Russia There will be plenty of weapons for everybody to blow up planet Earth to smithereens. Weapons and religion are a deadly combination. Enough to extinguish life on earth.
@Chachoo: you said rifles?...get ur info updated. ..pakistan produces some of the best rifles and small arms in the world and export it too.where do you live?
@Chachoo: Why all the countries keep security forces? As per your Philosophy all the countries should have spent according to your Paradise. But world is real and not fools paradise and it will be difficult for you to understand because of personal agenda.
@chachoo Pakistan is surrounded by countries like India, Afghanistan and Iran. While inside our own country we have TTP and 20 other terrorist groups operating with a new one emerging everyday. Moreover, India is the biggest arms buyer in the world & we have a history with India , we cant ignore it. Indians dont criticise their army even though poverty rate in india is much higher thn Pakistan. 85% indian homes without proper toilets and 90% without a computer.
@shim A question for people like you, whom are you afraid of? who will come that we will need spoons and forks to fight with other than our very own Momineen turned Mujahideen turned Taliban.
Let me tell you one thing, if our army with billions of rupees of budget have failed misrebly over the last 70 years, these new toys wont do much either. lets spend on education, water, health and prosperity.
Mr. Chachoo (or whatever your parents actually named you), It is even a bigger shame that ignorant and self centered people like you call yourselves Pakistanis and act oblivious to the REAL issues faced by Pakistan. Your so called 100s and 1000s of scholars and researchers will count for zilch of there is no Pakistan left for them to flourish in. Solidify your borders first, root out the evil within our lands and THEN talk about progress. What good is million spent on a Metro Bus when you do not invest in equipping your security forces with the means to avert a terrorist blowing it to bits? Get some sense and wake up. Quit with your ridiculous propaganda against the Army. I can assure you it falls on deaf ears in light of recent developments now. Pakistan Zindabad!
"Russia has long been the largest supplier of arms to India, which is the world’s top arms buyer". Enough to shut the mouths of those against these deals.. Period.
@shim: well said MR..
ironically these are the same ones which were shot down in afg, by US Stingers supplied via Pakistan.
Russia has historically been allied with India, it just wants to sell pak its junk. Lets not beat around the bush here, there is no reason whatsoever to buy these, other than hefty commissions which certain military figures will pocket.
@Chachoo: i have a question for people like you. would you be ready to save your family with spoons and knives if you dont want this. you have seen what happened in karachi and what saved it. enough is enough. stop with this propaganda now.
Post 2014, Pakistan does get it's strategic importance back - Russia isn't sending friendliness gestures out of goodness. I just hope Nawaz Shareef and his cronies also understand the importance of this country that they have thru a sham elections and DON'T SELL IT SHORT.
India is going to buy Apache from USA, that is the reason. no worries, Russia also want to sell their arms.
Way to go Soviets..
Mi-25/35 was known as "Chariot of the Shaitan" by the Afghan Mujahiddins in Soviet Afghan War. Until the supply of "Stinger" missiles, Soviets had the lead in the war and Mujahiddins were scared of them. Now, Pakistan has run out of ideas and is just dusting off the old war manuals. All TTP needs to do is to convince Bairooni Haaths to supply Stingers or its modern equivalents to tilt the war in favour for TTP.
So India finally decided to step up and buy superior weapons from the West which left Russia free to sell arms to Pakistan? Probably a good move for all parties. India gets better weapons and distances itself from Russia who's reputation has recently taken a nose dive. Pakistan gets an alternative to the USA which is likely considering reducing it's military/financial support for Pakistan. Russia gets another customer (albeit smaller than India) who appears to have a perpetual need for arms.
Good move to leave USA and shake hand with Russia.
The average cost of one MI-35 is around 20 Million US Dollars. This equates to more than 2 Billion Rupees Per Helicopter. Just imagine if Our Army Officers will think about Pakistan first rather than their Hefty Commissions then even we will employ one Research Engineer for 100,000 Rs a Month. Then with an amount of just one helicopter we can hire more than 200 Researchers in Pakistan for more than 4 years. I am pretty sure that if the same amount will be spent on Local Research and Development then not only it will create employment but we could achieve self reliance as well. It is a sheer shame that Pakistan Army with Billions of rupees of Budget have not been able to produce a even a Single Automatic or Sniper Rifle on its own since 1947 and now we are begging everyone to give us some defense stuff to protect ourselves..
