CCTV cameras installed on Punjab borders

Close circuit TV cameras installed on provincial borders to monitor terrorist infiltrations.

Express November 03, 2010

Close circuit TV (CCTV) cameras have been installed on all provincial borders of Punjab to monitor  terrorist infiltrations.

Security forces have installed the latest systems with updated data about criminals to keep a check on terrorists coming from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh and Balochistan. The project was started in the DG Khan division, which connects Punjab to all other provinces.

A patrolling security force is also in place to monitor water channels of the province.

Stringent action has been taken after receiving Interior Ministry reports that explosives have changed hands through these channels.

CCTV cameras are currently one of the most efficient surveillance devices available. Recently, at least 200 CCTV cameras were installed at a cost of Rs40 million on important routes in different areas of Karachi, including DHA, Clifton, Sharae Faisal, MA Jinnah Road, North Nazimabad and Guru Mandir. The step was taken to help regulate traffic, bring down the crime rate and help police in investigations
