Talking to The Express Tribune, CADD focal person on dengue Dr Yaqoob Qureshi said this initiative has been taken in view of imminent closing of the Prime Minister’s Special Initiative for Management of Dengue Fever and Pollen Allergy and a need was felt for the extension of the programme.

He said the PC-1 of the three year programme worth Rs59 million has been finalised and soon it will be submitted for an approval.

Earlier the Programme worth Rs39 million was approved in September 2012, after the massive outbreak of dengue fever, he said.

Sharing the details, he said for the coming season all the preventive measures have been taken by utilizing the funds from the existing programme.

“This year it has been predicted that there will be a massive outbreak of dengue fever in the twin cities due to pre-monsoon ---starting mid June--- therefore all efforts are underway to deal with any untoward situation,” he said.

“All the required medicines have been procured and sent to the public hospitals whereas public awareness seminars and walks have been arranged,” he said.
