In the line of duty: Policeman shot dead, another injured

A policeman was killed and another was injured in an attack by unknown assailants.

HYDERABAD: A policeman was killed and another was injured in an attack by unknown assailants late on Thursday night. The incident occured near the district and sessions court and the SSP office. The police constables, Riyaz Aiwan and Muhammad Aijaz, were attacked while they were returning from duty at the Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s sit-in outside the press club, according to SSP Pir Farid Jan Sarhindi. The two were taken to Civil hospital where Aiwan, who sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his chest, neck and abdomen, died. Aijaz, who was shot in the shoulder and right arm, is still under treatment. The SSP said the unidentified attackers were riding a motorcycle and fled after the attack. However, an FIR of the incident has yet to be registered.
