A Lahore High Court special division bench on Tuesday directed the capital city police officer (CCPO) to submit a report on progress in the murder of Farzana, who was bludgeoned to death by her family near the high court last week.
An LHC special division bench on Tuesday directed the capital city police officer (CCPO) to submit a report about progress in the case of Farzana.
The bench was hearing a petition questioning inadequate security on the premises of courts around the province.
The bench, headed by Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial, observed that security should be enhanced not only on the court premises but also around the courts.
Investigations DIG Ghulam Rasool submitted a report in court detailing the progress in the case. The acting prosecutor general, Asjad Jarraal, informed the bench that 11 suspects were in custody, including the main suspect. He said investigation was underway and the challan would be submitted in the trial court within the requisite time.
The bench adjourned further hearing until Thursday and sought a detailed report on the incident from the CCPO. Advocate Kashif Pasha had filed the petition challenging inadequate security on court premises and contending that this resulted in repeated incidents of assassination of litigants, lawyers and even exposed the presiding officers to risk.
The petitioner said it was the duty of the police to protect the citizens of Pakistan, especially those in judicial custody, lawyers and judges, but they had miserably failed to do so.
