ISLAMABAD:

The government has appointed Nargis Sethi as water and power secretary on the instructions of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

According to sources, the PM has conveyed to all officials at the ministry, including Water and Power Minister Khwaja Asif and Minister for State Abid Sher Ali, to consult with Sethi before formalising any decisions or issuing any statements particularly with regards to load-shedding and other key issues.

The recommendation for Sethi’s appointment reportedly came from Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, with whom Sethi worked on the Lahore Metro Bus project.

Sethi, who was officiating as economic affairs division secretary, has previously served as chief executive officer (CEO) Pakistan Power Park Management Company Limited.

“The prime minister is personally impressed by her performance at PPPMCL where she completed the master plan of Gadani power plants in a record five weeks,” said officials at the PM’s office.  “As secretary economic affairs, Sethi was highly praised by the premier and Punjab CM on the Orange Line metro train project in Punjab and other ongoing and anticipated Pak-China joint projects.”

Sources at PM House added that Saifullah Chattha, who Sethi will replace, has been appointed additional secretary in-charge at human resource and development ministry.

HUSSAIN ALI | 10 years ago | Reply My dear sir, Karachi City has a big problem about water supply, because the under ground water is not able to drink, because due to near sea/samandar its under-ground water is KHARA PANI, The only source of water supply is HAB DAM which is dry due not rain fall. The other source is DHABI JEE pumping station, which is always out of order due to lack of repair, and there are many reasons for not supplying the water. Karachi is the economic Hab but nothing is going to be done for supply of water. The only source of water supply is SEA, from where the water can be supplied after filtration, but I have also see that the Federal Govt: has rejected two schemes of water supply to Karachi city, which were proposed by Provincial Government. Karachi is a big city of Pakistan and is a source of income for the courtry. It is therefore suggested/requested that the water supply to Karachi must be approved as a big/congested city of Pakistan. OK thanks.
