Supporting sugar industry: Senate panel proposes restoring subsidy
The Senate panel will take up Free Trade Agreements in its next meeting.
ISLAMABAD:
The Senate Standing Committee on Commerce and Textile Industry has suggested the government restore subsidy on the export of sugar, a statement said on Friday. The committee, which met with Senator Haji Ghulam Ali in the chair, discussed the implementation status of the Trade Policy 2012-15 and the matter of deputing trade and commercial officers in foreign countries. It also reviewed the open trade agreement with different countries, the statement said. Senator Ghulam Ali said peace was the prerequisite to revive the business activities and create job opportunities for local youth. Senator Islamuddin Sheikh called for supporting the sugar industry. “We need a comprehensive plan to revive the sugar industry and support the farmers and business community.” The Senate panel will take up Free Trade Agreements in its next meeting.
