The Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) has issued notices to 57 officials of National Institute for Science and Technical Education (NISTE) over misappropriation of Rs1.7 million.
The recipients, including a former acting head of NISTE, have been directed to resubmit the amounts they received for different activities.
A CADD officer claims that the NISTE officials, aided by the previous DG, illegally withdrew Rs1.7 million for several extra duties at the institute. “Under the law, Rs500,000 could be withdrawn from the account against lectures and other duties. However, the acquisition approval was not taken from the secretary and a much higher amount was distributed among the officials,” he said.
The officials who received extra amounts have been told to resubmit the money. The DG himself had to resubmit about Rs120,000.
In another inquiry, Bashir Meerani, an official who got himself regularised in grade 16 at NISTE with a fake order obtained in 2005, has been demoted. An administration officer was found to have facilitated him. The fake order has been withdrawn.
Meanwhile, in the case of 12 people who were allegedly recruited illegally at NISTE, three have been removed, while the status of the other nine is now legal.
