LAHORE:
Punjab police have said that a letter sent to the Secretary Information Punjab advising the information department to control and monitor cable operators was aimed at creating a misunderstanding and clash between media houses and the Punjab government. Police officials have said that it is the responsibility of the provincial government to investigate the forgery and punish those responsible.
According to the Punjab police spokesperson, no such letter was ever issued from the IG’s office. The spokesperson reproduced the contents of the letter for media personnel and pointed out many mistakes in it. The letter states, “The situation continuing from some days back discloses that channels including Jang, Geo group and Express, ARY are fighting against each other. It is decided that cable operators should be monitored strictly.”
The Punjab police say that the letter has been authored with ‘biased and criminal intentions’ and have demanded a formal inquiry into the matter.
