HYDERABAD: The Sindh High Court ordered the prison police on Wednesday to take action against persons involved in various crimes in Dadu prison. In light of a 2011 court order, eight men, including former jailer Sikandar Solangi, were to be suspended or reverted for their alleged involvement in corruption, abetting child molestation and absence from duty. In January 2011, additional sessions judge Mushtaq Laghari conducted an inquiry on the directives of the SHC. The court took notice after a prison police constable, Shahnawaz Chandio, complained to SHC Justice Ameer Hani Muslim about the alleged sexual abuse of children and young boys, embezzlement of funds and the absence of officials from duty. In his report, Laghari named eight persons with different charges and suggested action against them. On January 17, 2011, the court ordered the prison police to take action. Instead, the former police DIG, Gulzar Ahmed Channa, ordered another departmental inquiry which absolved them of all charges.
