Nine years on: Reconstruction yet to complete
DC informed journalists that paucity of funds was the chief reason behind the delay.
ABBOTTABAD:
Battagram Deputy Commissioner (DC) Zareeful Mahani has said the delay in completion of reconstruction projects nine years after the devastating earthquake of October 2005 has caused immense problems for the people. Speaking to the media after visiting the office of the District Reconstruction Unit, Mahani said the delay in public welfare projects is a cause of concern for the public and government officials alike. The DC disclosed that 109 schools, 20 centres for environment protection, five health projects, two social protection units, 457 water and sanitation projects, two transport projects and 70 projects concerning livelihood of local communities are yet to be completed. He informed journalists that paucity of funds was the chief reason behind the delay and asked the Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority to complete the pending projects on a priority basis, saying the delay has affected essential public services.
