QUETTA: Eight personnel of Balochistan Levies were killed on Sunday in an armed attack on a check post in Khuzdar's Wadh area, Express News reported.

"Gunmen attacked the checkpost early in the morning and shot dead eight Levies officials," Balochistan Home Secretary Akbar Hussain Durrani told AFP.

Durrani said one other officer was wounded in the attack but survived, adding police will question him over how the fighting occurred and who the gunmen were once his condition stabilises.

The attackers managed to escape soon after the incident.

Security officers cordoned off the area and started a search operation in their bid to arrest the culprits.

Khuzdar is one of the volatile districts in Balochistan where there are a number of pro as well as anti-government militant groups operating.

@ Ch. Allah Daad , the levies is formed by the locals with the help of provincial govt , it is not part of Armed forces or Paramilitary Forces but old fashioned police force with limited powers and century old weapons , get ur facts rite and these guys are facing acute shortage of funds and lack training , they should be augmented by the police
