Reviewing pace of work on Gadani power project in Lahore on Saturday, the premier also appreciated Chinese investment in the energy sector.
During the course of the meeting, Nawaz gave his approval for construction of two additional coal fired plants to be built by the government in Gadani in IPP mode. Funds for the projects will be allocated from PSDP.
Previously, Nawaz had been given a detailed briefing on the status of the project and was told that the feasibility study of the infrastructure would be completed by the end of next month.
Furthermore, he was told that the work on land leveling and grading on the site will start within the next three weeks and will be completed by August.
Similarly, jetty break water and allied infrastructure will be completed in 32 months.

Good work by Mian sb.
So these are to be built by the Government itself and not by many international investors who are supposedly queuing up waiting to build coal fired plants.
The fact is that in order to obtain funding from banks, without which leveraging the plants will not be viable, they have to carry out Environmental Studies. Most people know that this will not be easy to pass due to the location, nature of the coal, water supplies etc.
This is why, apart from the plant or two by the Chinese (who are not bound by environmental considerations), hardly any international investor will invest in such plants. This is why the Govt is having to do this now to save face.
Regardless of what you do to close the gap between generation vs load demand, unless and until the recovery of revenue from each and every consumer of KW power, the IPPs and even government cannot keep generating power without getting paid for fuel, operations and maintenance costs; This recovery system needs to be fully computerized and cut off electronically any connection on payment default; Losses in each sub-feeder in each street must be computer controlled and locked; increase in demand and losses means theft; that line feeder must get disconnected till the consumers of that street bring out the thief and punish him including heavy penalty for cheating and stealing power; Then, Pakistan will progress; industry will operate full time and generate employment and profits;
The world is moving away from this source of cancer and a range of other diseases. The pollution in Chinese cities is an open example. What are we doing? In our hurry to cure a short term problem we are causing 20 long term ones. And this is valid concern not mere criticism
The premier is approving projects left-and-right but they are all for the long run. For the time being, nothing can be done about loadshedding unless and until the rampant corruption, power theft and unpaid bills are cleared out of the electricity sector. The PM should look towards rectifying these.
All the people chanting Lahore Lahore for a development project there need to remember these bits too! Bravo PML N.
Nay sayers will still find a reason to stage yet another dharns to please their masters. Good going, PMLN.
Bravo...I am a PTI supporter but loving these develpoments
its easy to see the need for 2 more coal power plants.Its because of groups from uae have backed out of two power plants they committed to invest in as a result of their major shareholders were sanctioned recently from US as a result of oil deals with Iran. Government had already done due diligence on the groups and yet was not aware of possible hindrances
Government is working on power crisis at super speed..even if half these projects start functioning in next 3 years, loadshedding will be taken care of..
i hope leaders from the Center show the same enthusiasm for coal powered projects in Thar, Sindh as well.
