BeiDou, or Compass, has also set up a network in Pakistan.
While speaking to the annual China Satellite navigation Conference in Nanjing, Chief Scientist of UniStrong Shen Jun has said that the first stage of Pakistan’s geographic positioning network has been completed with the network covering Karachi.
BeiDou, a navigation satellite system company, is co-developed by China Great Wall Industry Corporation and the Beijing UniStrong Science & Technology Co. Ltd.
The network has five base stations and one processing center, covering Karachi.
The company claims that the GPS can provide positioning with accuracy of up to two centimeters. However, it adds that the accuracy can extend up to five millimeters after post-processing.
GPS can help with urban planning, surveying and mapping environmental supervision, disaster relief efforts, traffic monitoring and other fields.
Shen Jun added that the second stage of the network will cover up the whole area of Pakistan and will be the first national high precision navigation network abroad.
Huang Lei, international business director of BDStar Navigation, which promotes BeiDou, had said in 2013 that the company would build a network of stations in Pakistan to enhance the location accuracy of Beidou.
He said building the network would cost tens of millions of dollars.
BeiDou had demonstrated its navigation system during a conference in Karachi in September 2012.

Glad to know about the conference in September 2012 Karachi. Any participant of this conference on BaiDou with the conference proceedings, or web address. What and where is the Pakistan processing center?
@Ali: My dear Ali the time will tell whether the grapes are sour or sweet, we have already tasted these grapes in 1962 and pray that the same may not happen to you.

Wonderful news...This is the way to prosper...we need partnerships as we have limited resources and a lot to cover for...Amazing..Proud of Pakistan-China friendship :-) I love Pakistan and China.
I guess pakistan dont trust west any more so best option left is china ...
@Sanjay Dalit: a poor attempt at personating an Indian....similar to what you make in the field of science and technology...utter failure.for your information you may find many a ''Lalit'' but seldom find anyone with a ''Dalit'' title in India. Dalit is a socio-political term mostly used in official terminology.
To the fellow Indians. This is something between Pakistan and China. Pakistan was using US GPS and now they wish to use Chinese system. It has absolutely nothing to do with India. We should be gracious enough to extend our congratulations to them as some of them clearly think its a technological feat for them. As for us Indians, we are sill few satellites away from having our own system.
@Sanjay Dalit
As a Chinese our products have so much lead and cheap material that they are good for selling to these dirty pakees only.
I don't know why they call us our friends, they are bringing terrorism into China.
@Sanjay Dalit:
That is a funny disguise for a Pakistani.
Anyways, If you really read my post, you would have known that I was not comparing Chinese and Indian products. We are not talking about any consumer products here. We are talking about satellites and launch vehicles. The Indians have a demonstrated capability in both.
Because begging is more easy than hard work.
Not shame on Pakistan, rather shame on the mind sent. Pakistan never asked for begging. What we gave to Pakistan? while Pakistan gave us identification and everything. Many contraries came into being later, but now they are more ahead.
We are fleeing and betraying from accepting and implementing the real essence of objective resolution. We have weak faith and trust on our Creator, we have trust on EU and west.
We are feeding the convicted criminals instead to give them punishment according to Quraanic Law and current law of this Islamic Republic, due to this cheap thinking, crime is promoting on daily basis, because criminal knows that there is no rule of law in this sacred land which came into being on the name of Allah Almighty.
We have very limited time to correct ourselves and come on right track, otherwise Allah Almighty will replace us with other nation.
@observer: As an Indian i am more concerned of the quality of made in india products than made in china products, cause the Chinese are WAY ahead of us, don't compare us bro
Russian salves calling the pakistan a china slave.wat a joke.
Shame on Pakistan, this should have been developed by Pakistanis. This nation is becoming habitual in getting aid and loans. China should be our freind and not master.
Lol! @ Jealous Indians commenting here.
Its Pakistan's prerogative to use any system it wants, anything it imports. why waste time and eergy debating it.
@Asad Khan:
" Right now, India own SN system is still under development."
You are right that the Indian GPS navigation system is not yet fully deployed. But, development work is all finished and the full deployment will occur by 2016 with the planned launching of more dedicated satellites, just a year and a half away.
"Satellites are not a bigger issue so to speak (although it is a pinnacle of engineering). Pakistan & India both have launched a number of satellites. The golden point is, does a country posses a SLV capability to launch satellites into space? Does a country generates its own Navigation System which requires a constellation of Satellites & numerous launches?"
India possesses demonstrated capability and experience in all the areas you list above.
@Lunacyassailam: Your morning coffee is ready.
@Usman Mubashir:
You think about pakistan, dont worry about india and china as they are mileas ahead. Looser.
Badr was an indigenous satellite built and launched by Suparco way back in 1990. Slightly bigger than sputnik. with a weight of 54 kg.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Badr-1
@Lunacyassailam: Pakistan is not in a strategic position to rely on India for anything advanced especially when it comes to communications.
@Mohan: You think launching some lunar probes and a mars mission puts India ahead of China in space science? China has not only sent probes, but also orbitals and rovers on the moon, several satellites in Sun-Earth Lagrangian points and made rendezvous with asteroids. Then count the number of launches and re-entries made by Chinese. India made record of most launches simultaneously but there are very few or no re-entries. Please stop spreading nonsense.
@Xeric: Thankyou, You sir are probably the only one who shares my thoughts. Faith in Pakistanis: Restored!
@Umer: I think it is both tactical and strategic decision. The GPS use by the world is based on slightly different technology than the Chinese, and do you know when a country attacks another, they just simply destroy the communications to stop one another. Any country that dares to do that against China has very tough climb to disable China as its technology is self sustained and not used by the nations of the world. Besides, if you consider Chinese tech to be cheap only because you broke your Chinese phone, boy you are in for a shock. one third of America uses Chinese product which is better than any of their own. Instead of thinking about how cheap this is, I am very excited about this because it has so much technological potential for Pakistan that I can understand, and you cannot.
@Sami Khan: I think the only countries running the GPS are America and China. India, I believe does not has this technology yet. The technology is far more advanced than you think it is and USA made a global collaboration of scientists to create the global GPS. The positive for Pakistan is that depending on the security of the Chinese company that made this. It will be harder for other countries (including India which uses GPS) to hack into Pak Army if army takes it into service. The downside is that we might not have other things like some apps that rely on American GPS.
Is service free?
@Umer: Because you have a totally useless education system I studied in Pakistan and found you have many intelligent people but an education system that does not work.
Other than painting the name as 'Pakistan' what contribution pakistan made in space !
@Asad Khan: You have no idea about space capabilities of india and pakistan.As you mentioned pakistan launched 'many' satellites, reality pakistan launched very few satellite with help of china.India is ahead of china once it comes on extra terrestrial missions like mars in space, but they are ahead in maned mission.There is no space mission in the case of pakistan even can't develop its own satellite(Pakistan satellite is made with the money,man and resource from china).Pls publish
@kulwant singh: Sour grapes?
@Sazid Khan: what is therein the news to be proud of for a Pakistani. The device developed and positioned by china with no contribution from the Pakistani side. It rather makes me sad.
What concerns me is whether it can make GPS navigation on my smartphone easier or better. Will it? I hope Land Revenue and records departments can soon start using GPS technology to help people demarcate private property and settle disputes.
Congratulations!!! Just make sure you turn left when it asks you to turn right :D :D
Hey..It's just a joke!! Whatever happened to your sense of humour guys!!
By the way, it's important countries develop their own navigation systems..in time of conflict, it makes a huge difference..Ever heard of 'kill switch'?? I'm sure the Chinese build that into their systems..
Thankfully we will be getting our own.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IndianRegionalNavigationSatelliteSystem
Cheers and Peace
So we finally get GPS fpr our cruise missiles! Hmm..
Looking forward for the App to come soon. I hope it works better than Sygic Pakistan. Fingers crossed! =D
Guud news. This way we are off from the American monoply in this field and will have garaunteed GPS access during any war, whereby the yanks can shut off their satellites in favour of our belligerant.
Pakistan is the first and last country to have the cheap Chines technology no other country will buy this.
I couldn't care less what comments the trolls from different regions and nations make. The point is that our friendship and trust for one another is strong. We are willing to combine our success, we are able to share our success with our brethren nations. China Thank You!!! Don't worry about the bad comments made right now, its juts some trolls feeling jealous for our fruitful friendship and trust.
@Sami Khan: @ Kulwant Sing:
Seems to me you guys are having reading comprehension issues.
There are currently 3 systems of Satellite Navigation working, GPS (USA), Glassnot (Russia/ Ex Soviet), The new comer BeiDou (China) and soon to be commence will be Galileo (EU). Right now, India own SN system is still under development.
Satellites are not a bigger issue so to speak (although it is a pinnacle of engineering). Pakistan & India both have launched a number of satellites. The golden point is, does a country posses a SLV capability to launch satellites into space? Does a country generates its own Navigation System which requires a constellation of Satellites & numerous launches?
China at the moment posses all these and sailing very fast. While India is ahead of Pakistan because of her big budget and big HR pool. Pakistan, if one looks at her rationally, done a pretty decent job on its own considering its meager resources.
Hope you guyz understand the difference between a cheap Chinese Toy and a Satellite, Navigation System and Launch Capabilities.
Long Live Pak China Friendship.
regards,
Hope Pakistan doesn't settle for the bomb,and not work on developing their own systems.Have the double genius of Indians and Arabs put together.Just be true to true Islam!!
India also can offer Pakistan with a cheaper regional navigation system.The idea is to sell to Pakistan our technology and make it technologically dependent on India.With the Indian navy controling the sea lanes, the energy dependency will be achieved.Once this is done, the local govt will be suspended with complete de-nuclerisation of Pakistan and will be declared the Indian Union buffer zone as a hedge against the outer barbarians.
its very nice our civillians and milltry ,keep it up ,
I don't know why Pakistanis are so idiots don't you think we don't have money . It's all because of the money factor that we are not able to IT'S NOT ABOUT CHANG ING MASTER BUT LOYALTY
@Sami Khan: Dear Khan Sahib if such a comment is made by me or Indian he has been labelled jelous of Pakistan Chine friendship . In Indian markets any article made in Chine is considered cheap, you are true Pakistan must produce its own satellite system if you produce an atom bomb why not Satellite or GPRS. Wishing you good luck.
Now, all roads will lead to Beijing.
Doing so pak will please her master china.
wooo........Man What an achievement..I hope its not in chinese language......lol....or has it been customised to arabic.......
Why is Pakistan always sponsoring China's, often cheap, technology instead of developing its own?
i am not really feeling proud. Changing one master to another. Pakistan should have its own GPS. India is building its own GPS. China was poor country and now they have developed so much. Why Paksitan still poor?
Congrats!!!!All the Peoples of Pakistan are Proud of such moments.
