KARACHI:

Eleven people, including two political activists, were killed in separate incidents of violence in Karachi Tuesday night. Three children also died when fireworks exploded in a poultry farm.

Unidentified armed men shot dead 35-year-old Mohammad Ali and Aleemuddin, 38, in Hasan Noman Colony. Both were residents of Liaquatabad and were going home on a bike when unidentified armed men sprayed them with bullets.

According to their families, both had no affiliation with any party, however, Ahle Sunnat Wal Jumaat spokesperson Umar Mauviya said Mohammad Ali was their activist and Alleemuddin was a supporter. He claimed they were killed on sectarian basis.

Similarly, a bank manager, identified as Hasan Mehdi, was shot dead when he was returning home in Korangi No. 3.5.

In Orangi Town, the police found the body of a K-Electric employee. He was allegedly strangled to death.

Another body of a man, who was allegedly tortured and then shot multiple times, was found from Surjani Town, but the identity of the victim is yet to be ascertained.

Separately, Barkat Ali, 55, was stabbed to death on his house’s roof. Manghopir SHO Ghulam Farid said the deceased was a prayer leader at a mosque and was sleeping on his rooftop because of load-shedding. Unidentified armed men stabbed him because of a personal enmity, said the police.

Two brothers, Amanul Haq and Aminul Haq, were killed in Orangi Town by unidentified suspects. The police said both the victims were affiliated with the Sunni Tehreek and were killed on sectarian grounds.

In another incident, an unidentified woman was killed amid firing in Bihar Colony as she was passing by a troubled area.

Another passer-by was killed during a shoot-out between rival Lyari gangs, according to witnesses. However, the police claimed that the deceased was wounded during an encounter.

Explosion at a farm

At least three children died when fireworks exploded in a poultry farm on Tuesday. According to Memon Goth SHO Rao Khalid, a powerful explosion caused the roof of the farm to collapse. Firecrackers were dumped in a shed, which later caught fire.

The SHO said the children might have been working in the poultry farm. Investigations are under way, he added.
