The Islamabad high court on Saturday overturned a February 10 order by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif appointing Sethi as chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and sacking Zaka Ashraf.
Saturday's judgement reinstated Ashraf for the second time this year, after he was initially suspended by the same court in in 2013 over "dubious elections".
Sethi said the court judgement would be challenged "vigorously and swiftly."
"The good steps we took to professionalise and invigorate cricket and clean up the PCB will not be allowed to go in vain," Sethi told AFP.
The Sethi-led PCB has initiated a complete overhaul of the Board since February, terminating surplus staff which the court ordered in May last year.
Sethi also appointed several coaches, including head coach Waqar Younis and batting coach Grant Flower of Zimbabwe earlier this month in a bid to improve team's performance in next year's World Cup to be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand.
Sethi said he was in the process of giving the PCB a democratic constitution and was set to hold elections by next month.
"Two ex-Supreme court judges submitted a draft of a democratic PCB constitution to the federal government last week. I wrote to the government to vet it, promulgate it and hold PCB chairman and board elections before 9th June," said Sethi, who is also a veteran journalist.
Ashraf has vowed to review all decisions taken by the Sethi-led management committee, including those of coaches.
"A good number of decisions and appointments have been made by the previous PCB set-up. I will review each one of them to decide if these were made on merit," Ashraf told Pakistani media.
The frequent changes in PCB's set up has raised concerns in the International Cricket Council (ICC), which finds it difficult to finalise important issues with frequent changes in Pakistan cricket management.
Ashraf had strongly opposed the proposed revamp in the ICC meeting in February while Sethi conditionally agreed to the changes in the last meeting in April.
The ICC Board had voted in favour of the changes in February this year. The changes will be formally approved in the ICC Council meeting in Melbourne next month.

Mr . Sethi We are well your performance as a care taker punjab chief minister during election process with thity five puncture. You have sold out mandate of pakistani people for just president ship of PCCB. Shame on you and your carrier as a journalism . Please explain how many punctures in PCCB election under your supervision.
I wonder why this post is not announced in national and international dailies to fill ? All Pakistanis should have right to be candidate for Chairmanship of PCB. We better shift Head Office of PCB from Lahore to Quetta immediately so that other cities of Pakistan also developed.
CH. Allah Dad: Your mian sb is a prime minister, not a mugl e azam who thinks he owns this country. This country needs to run on some rules/principles and law, not on the wishes of Mugl e Azam, its not his pappa's personal property. Mian sb is ruining the institutions and he needs to pay the price.
None of the above commenting genius folks knows anything about PCB and its affairs yet they boast and pretend to know every thing.
"Sparrow Man"
Mr. Najam Sethi, it is better that you focus on journalism and avoid meddling in the affairs of cricket, neither you have specialty in the field nor it is suitable for you to get engaged in this game. I suggest you to spare your time and energy for your profession, which has made you known with respect, but your continuation in cricket affairs, will make you loose your creditworthiness. This is my humble advice to you Mr. Sethi.
Forget Cricket...this is more interesting.
Both should quit in interest of cricket. A professional sould be assigned the job.
Mr Sethi if you were only a caretaker and were planning elections in PCB within a month why were you making long term decisions? Is a caretaker supposed to give away 2 years contracts to coaches and selectors especially when we dont have any cricket in near future? Is it the duty of a caretaker to make decisions about big 3? Or you just knew you would rig the PCB elections anyway and be the elected chairman.
@Ch. Allah Daad:
Rather than being a Pithoo on internet, why dont you go to the court and defend noora league who are at loggerheads with all the institutions of Pakistan.
Thanks God, PCB has been able to get rid of this highly controversial person who has done hardly any thing for Pakistan's cricket.
If Sethi will be reinstated again!!!!!!!!!! Who'll be more foolish than us on earth????
Sethi should not have bargained his stature so cheap.
I am shocked to read some of the comments on this page! Clearly ppl too lazy to do their research also find it very convenient to believe in any thing IK feeds them. The so called constitution that zaka ashraf made based on which he got elected allows him to hand pick 4 board members. Out of those 4 he needs 2 to vote for him who obviously will given he selected them. Now if the pm can't even remove him expect ashraf to rub PCB till the day he dies or if before tht he manages to kill PCB. Guys do your research before you spew all these accusations against anyone
Hmm! He has changed his mind with in 12 hours!
Looks like Mian sahib is in no mood to go to SC.
And then this man talks so high as a 'journalist' on a 'media' channe :). Nawaz Sharif must now be cursing himself for taking Sethi's help during the election.
Sethi is doing better job.
Shame on Sethi for still being adamant in ruining Pakistani cricket. I am not a big fan of Zaka Ashraf but I know for sure that Najam Sethi is not the right man to run cricketing affairs in Pakistan. He in indeed so confident because he is being supported by the corrupt Nawaz Sharif who has to return his favor of being caretaker CM Punjab. It is just getting more obvious now.
I am wondering how Govt of Pakistan will recover the salaries and perks Najam Sethi has taken as PCB Chairman. All foreign tours tickets and boarding must also recovered from NS.
We are all stupids.....
Sethi is not an ideal person to lead cricket board but he is much better than Zaka. He mended our relations with other cricket playing countries while Zaka's mission was to destroy International cricket forever. Mian Sahib should intervene immediately and hold elections to elect Cricket Board Chairman but meanwhile do not let corrupt elements of previous government to play tricks with the future of cricketers.
have some shame... stop it now!!
and the TOPI DRAMA continues :)
Perhaps once for all court can decide how to choose pcb chairperson Is he a ceo or a politician elected to run the organization . It is abundantly clear a large number of lucrative jobs with plum benefits and little work is at sake.I remember a former chairman invited his friends as his guests when there were matches in crribians . Chairman was a physician from united states. what a farce that was.But the Dictator knew better.
Supreme Court should refuse to take up the case. Sethi already got the verdict twice against him. He should not be allowed to waste the time of the courts. And if it does listen to him, his case should not get preference over thousands of existingly pending cases. Give him a hearing date of 10 years from today.
clean up PCB. the only way to clean up is to remove you (Sethi) form PCB.
