Margalla police register case against Geo TV

The Margalla police on Saturday registered a case against Geo TV under sections 295-A, 295-C, 298-A as well as seven sections of the Anti-Terrorism Act.


The complainant, Arshad Butt, nominated Geo’s chief executive Mir Shakilur Rehman, the host of its morning show Utho Jago Pakistan host, actress Veena Malik, her husband Asad Bashir Khattak, accusing them of ridiculing religious personages. The complainant had filed an application in the court of sessions judge Jahangir Awan, who on Saturday ordered the Margalla police to register a case against the accused.

Separately in Lahore, an additional district and sessions judge, Safdar Ali Bhatti, directed the SHO of Old Anarkali police station to record the account of a petitioner seeking registration of a case against Mir Shakilur Rehman and others over the controversial morning show.

The judge passed the order on a petition filed by advocate Aftab Virk, seeking registration of a case against Mir Shakeel, host of morning show Utho Jago Pakistan, bureau chief of Geo TV, programme editor, actor Veena Malik and her husband for allegedly hurting the sentiments of Muslims.

Four petitions were filed in the district and sessions courts seeking registration of a case against the Geo management.
