KARACHI:

The election tribunal has directed the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) on Saturday to carry out verification of the thumb impressions of the votes cast at 32 polling stations of the National Assembly constituency, NA-299 in Tharparkar.

Pakistan Peoples Party's Faqeer Sher Muhammad Bilalani had won the seat in the May 11 general elections, defeating the rival candidate, Arbab Fawwad Razzak, belonging to the political group of the former chief minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim.

Razzak had, however, challenged the election results in the tribunal, alleging the winning candidate of managing his victory through bogus voting. In his election plea, Razzak had pleaded the tribunal order a verification of the votes polled at 32 polling stations of the constituency to unearth the truth.

On Saturday, the tribunal, headed by former SHC judge Zafar Ali Khan Sherwani, directed the NADRA authorities to carry out a verification of the thumb impressions of the voters with the help of the Automated Fingerprints Integrated System to determine whether or not the allegations of fake voting are correct.
