PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Amir Sirajul Haq on Saturday refuted impressions that PTI’s protest was aimed at destabilising democracy. Talking to reporters following a meeting between both parties’ leadership at JI’s provincial headquarters Markaz-e-Islami, Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that certain people were portraying his party’s protest as attempts to destabilise democracy, which was not correct. “We want to strengthen democracy and have made sacrifices for it,” said Qureshi, while Sirajul Haq also said that some people were creating confusion, equating this struggle with an exercise to topple the government. Qureshi said there was congruence in the opinion of both parties on this issue. He said that they will form a multi-party committee comprising all those parties which have concerns over polls and this committee will mull suggestions about changes and legislations.
