Blessing or curse: Joys and fears that rain brings

BAHAWALPUR: Heavy rain and a hailstorm hit Bahawalpur district and surrounding areas on Friday evening. While the weather has taken a pleasant turn for many, it does not bode well for cotton and mango farmers.

High-speed winds began blowing across the district in the evening on Friday, followed by thunder and lightning for several hours before heavy rain fell.

Rain water has also flooded several cotton fields and has wet the wheat that was harvested recently. In Cholistan, ponds and wells are once again filled with water enough to last a few months.
