The proceeds will be donated from her Malala Fund to a special fund designed to assist local NGOs working to educate girls and women in Nigeria, where more than 200 schoolgirls are missing after being snatched at gun point last month by extremists.
Auction house Christie's had estimated the portrait of the veiled teenager - done in 2013 by leading British artist Jonathan Yeo - would fetch $60,000-$80,000.
But after several bids it was snapped up in just a few minutes at a higher price.
Malala, now 16, was shot by a Taliban gunman in 2012 over her outspoken views on education for girls in her home region of northwest Pakistan. After undergoing extensive medical treatment, she now lives in Britain.

Very proud of her
@Mirza: We own madrassas and ask why is Pakistan a hub of terrorism? Such poor people don't even understand that they themselves are promoting it!!!!
Pakistanis do not need this small money for education. We are getting huge sums from Saudis for madrasas since early 80's. We deserve that not the real education.
All this hatred is due to the fact that Malala has become a symbol of women's rights and girl's education. All the hate mongers would be happy if Gen Zia (pioneer of madrasa culture) or OBL's poster would be this valuable. What a shame that the world has standards and some Pakistani have their own just opposite to it all.
malala should never come to pakistan. the male species of humans that exist in pakistan doesn't deserve malala. secondly, she didn't get the money to spend it at a charity of her choice, the money was raised at a fund raiser, was made by an artist and sold to a person. she has no control over where that money goes.
Just curious. Why Malala is living in UK and who is paying for her education and living? Is she being groomed for a higher cause there?
@AM: Well that what we call deprived mentality!!:-(
@AM: @True Pakistani: True that!! We all feel easy to condemn and don't realise that it's her personal fund and it is her choice where to use the money. And we forget that she supports girl education internationally not only for Pakistan.

It's true that majority of Pakistanis don't care for Malala. So, Pakistanis shouldn't point fingers if the money doesn't come in their "Paradise on Earth" country because first of all, "Paradise" doesn't need money and secondly, Malala is "American Agent" according to them. Case closed. Clear the foreign debts first, then talk trash about whether you deserve a money from so-called "American-Agent" or not. It's very easy to blame but difficult to back it up.
Its interesting to see that on one hand Pakistanis are dying to prove her an American agent and puppet etc, but when there is money involved, they all want it flowing in Pakistan. I would say: Bigots, get a life. Her vision is no longer confined to one single locality- She thinks big and will prove it.
Be nice if Pakistan spent a little effort to find the thugs who shot her rather than blame the victim. Reminds me a bit of the OBL debacle --- you seem to have lost the ability to distinguish right from wrong.
I.agree with you on the point of Malala not seriously working in Pakistan but if the money would go to promoting girls education any where in the world@zubair:
@Razi ul Haq: Pakistanis want money but not Malala...shame
Money should go for the families of all those children killed by American drones in tribal areas of Pakistan.
@Zeeshan:
Jealousy is the sincerest form of compliment !
Hope the money reaches to the needy as soon as pMayble. Yet talking about the abduction of the Nigerian girls, the Nigerian government gas launched the military operation, maybe the girls be saved and brought back. Malala Yousafzai has helped Pakistani girls by starting the #bringbackourgirls campaign which has motivated me and maybe others aswell. It made join the campaign as nothing was on in Pakistan in this reference. Maybe not practically many girls from Pakistan who want to take part have taken part through this campaign. It even motivated me to start a petition in reference to the Abduction. May all the work done in this reference come with good news. Hope for the best.
How come?? Malala Yousafzai has gone global, hence she has focus on everything and a message to Malala that I being in Pakistan am with you and support your work for the girls in Nigeria and also doing my bit by joining the #Bringbackourgirls campaign nd starting a petition for them on change.org @Mango Awaam:
It is still better as the Malala Fund is global, yet it also needs to focus on Pakistan as other organisation who are also global don't care for Pakistan even if they have the motto of changing the world.@Razi ul Haq:
Malala you make Pakistan proud. Long live Malala...!
American agent, will make an excellent puppet leader. We all know the "role of NGOs" in Pakistan. Wake up people!
May Allah protect Pakistan.
My heart goes out to a girl who was shot and almost died, and who fights for every girl's right to education. But I wish the West would glorify the innocent victims of its drone strikes with as much fanfare --- sadly, those murdered or maimed by drone strikes are collateral damage, and those murdered or maimed by the Taliban are heroes. Such a difference shouldn't exist.
@Razi ul Haq, She is a shame for Pakistan but money should have been sent to Pakistan, lolz at this mentality. Keep up the good work Malala.
for some Pakistanis she is a drama queen but i am feeling better after reading this news as she is doing something good for the rest of the world as a Pakistani..
why does not she donates this amount to her sisters in Nigeria if she can not do it in Swat
$102,000 wasted , so sad
@Razi ul Haq:
Since over whelming majority of Pakistanis think that Malala is a fraud and Pakistan is a paradise on earth for womens education I don't see why they deserve proceeds from her portrait.
Such a shame..nothing else.
I dont see the gun shot wound anywhere.
Amount goes to trust or the artist??
