PESHAWAR:
Initiating the training of personnel of the newly-raised Special Combat Unit (SCU), IGP Nasir Khan Durrani addressed selected candidates at the Central Police Office on Monday.
The contingent of 150 personnel of the elite force, selected for the special unit, was praised by the IGP who said their professionalism and courage was outstanding.
SCU will be established on the pattern of the Zarrar Company of the military’s Special Services Group (SSG) and be an addition to the police’s elite force. The unit will be equipped with state-of-the-art weapons and will have its disposal a standby helicopter for effective mobility.
The SCU is envisioned to be available for instant deployment across the province for counter-terrorism operations, involving airborne and amphibious attacks, both independently and in support of other police units or law-enforcing agencies.
The unit’s personnel will be trained in urban warfare tactics, specialised combat, handling sophisticated weapons and modern gadgetry, para-trooping and underwater operations.
