No reason was given for the new appointment but an official of the law ministry said that the law and justice division has issued notifications for the appointment and termination of both law officers, an official of the ministry said.
Newly-appointed DAG Sherazi confirmed the reports and Attorney-General Maulvi Anwarul Haq said that Sherazi has replaced Akhtar Awan.
The 53-year-old Sherazi was elected as an MPA from PP 111, Silakot, on PPP ticket in 1988 elections. He also hosts a TV show.
Akhtar Awan, however, has not yet confirmed his termination.
Law Minister Babar Awan has a history of firing law officers and replacing them with loyalists of the ruling party. Awan had dismissed DAG Agha Tariq Mehmood on August 27 this year.
Former attorney-general Anwar Mansoor had categorically said “I have resigned because of Babar Awan’s uncivilised attitude”. Former DAG Shah Khawar had also cited identical reasons when he quit his office some months ago.
