Two children were killed and nine other people, including seven women and a groom, were injured when they fell into a drain during a wedding ceremony in Sangao area of Katlang on Sunday.
Dr Nisar, a physician at a private hospital in Katlang, said family and friends of Rizwan Ameen and Habib Rasul had gathered for their wedding when some women and children standing on top of a drain fell inside after its cover caved in.
The doctor said two sisters, seven-year-old Rifat and nine-year-old Ayesha, were killed on the spot, adding when the groom, Habib, came to rescue them he too fell into the gutter and got injured.
He said the women and children were pulled out of the drain after the incident and admitted to a hospital, where some of the women were unconscious till the filing of this report.
Riaz Shamizai, a resident of the area, said the incident occurred due to the use of substandard material in constructing the drain’s cover.
