Veteran bowler Javagal Srinath believes bowlers need to outwit batsmen in order to claim wickets, after Kings XI Punjab ran over Chennai Super Kings by 44 runs in an Indian Premier League (IPL) match in Cuttack, according to ESPN.

“What concerns me is the fact that the wicket-taking ability of a bowler is now directly linked to batsmen making mistakes in their desire to look for big scores,” stated Srinath.

“I think it is about time the bowlers started to think harder on what they can do not only to restrict the scoring, but also pick up wickets.”

His comments shed light on Glenn Maxwell’s scintillating 90-run knock off just 38 balls which guided Punjab to the highest innings total of 231 runs in the current season.

Chennai were off to a gallant chase with Faf du Plessis’ 25-ball 50 but could only score 187 at the end of their innings for the loss of six wickets.
