Anfield beckons Karachi United

Pakistan football club gearing up for tournament in England.

Karachi United (KU) FC are all set to take on 13 other teams at Anfield, the home ground of Liverpool, in their Standard Chartered Trophy futsal campaign that will start on May 12 in England.


Headed by Hamza Khan, the team will play the five-a-side event against teams from Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Nigeria, Bahrain, Lebanon, Oman, Jordan, Qatar, UAE, Europe Kenya, Thailand, Korea, Vietnam, Bangladesh and The Gambia.

KUFC competed against 20 other local clubs in April in order to qualify for the main round. They defeated Islamabad 3-2 in the final to book their place in the mega-event that will take place at the Liverpool.

The players said that while playing at the renowned football ground is exciting, they understand the responsibility of representing Pakistan abroad.

“It’s a responsibility for us, we’ll be representing the country and we are hoping to perform well,” said team member Taha Alizai at the official media meeting before the event.

Apart from the tournament, the team will also witness an English Premier League match at Anfield and will receive professional training from Liverpool FC legends and coaches.

KUFC will be playing their matches in two groups. Each fixture will be of eight minutes with a five-minute break, whereas the final will be 10-minute-long. They will leave for England on Friday.
