RAWALPINDI: The police have arrested four suspected extortionists who were targeting traders in the garrison city. According to the police, an extortionist who came over from Karachi to avoid a police operation there, formed his own gang in Rawalpindi. He had previously worked for a TV channel. Cases of robberies were registered in Ganjmandi, Civil Lines and RA Bazaar police stations against them. “The suspected extortionists would pretend to be members of a banned militant group and demand money from traders, mostly in the jurisdiction of Cantonment police station,” said the Rawalpindi RPO. They would use Afghan SIMs to scare traders and shot at the vehicles of those who would not pay. The RPO said Naeem, a trader from Mohanpura, who had staged his own kidnapping, was also arrested.
