PESHAWAR:

The former chairman of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) in DI Khan was arrested by NAB officials during a raid at a guesthouse in Abbottabad on Saturday.

Assisted by local police, authorities nabbed Noor Muhammad, who is presently an assistant professor at Gomal University, for purchasing land for BISE in DI Khan at exorbitant rates.

Earlier, Abdul Mateen Qasuria, the then-deputy district officer revenue and presently DI Khan Public Safety and Police Complaint Commission Secretary was also arrested in the same case.

An investigation had established that Noor had misused his authority and purchased private land in sheer violation of the Land Acquisition Act, 1894 at exorbitant rates in connivance with other accused, causing a huge loss to the national exchequer.

Moreover, funds belonging to the government were transferred and kept in the landowner’s account without securing the title and possession of the land.

NAB, in this case, has already recovered Rs72 million from the private landowner through the voluntary return system established under Section 25 of the National Accountability Ordinance 1999.

The accused will now be produced before an accountability court for obtaining physical remand.
