ISLAMABAD:

Voicing its solidarity with the working classes, the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) on Thursday criticised the government for pursuing anti-labour policies and called for a budget that would alleviate the hardships faced by the masses.

Addressing a Labour Day gathering organised by the party on Thursday, PML-Q Secretary General Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed said, “The working class is under pressure due to unprecedented inflation in the country and the government needs to protect them in the upcoming budget.”

Mushahid said labourers are the backbone of any economy and they should be facilitated and protected.

Firing a salvo at the government, Mushahid added that the PML-N government’s policy of not reducing the sales tax reflected its anti-labour approach.

“The government should formulate workable policies to end loadshedding and unemployment as well as overcome inflation”, the PML-Q leader said.

Dispelling the notion that state institutions were on the verge of a clash, Mushahid said, “There is no clash between state institutions, however, the real threat to the government is its bad governance which needs improvement.”

During the session, the PML-Q stalwart advised the government to focus on national issues rather than waste time confronting institutions.

While condemning attacks on journalists, Mushahid stated that media outlets should refrain from defaming Pakistan Army as
the military is a key institution.

Expressing solidarity with the armed forces, Mushahid said that Pakistan Army has rendered tremendous sacrifices for the country and the nation stands by the men and women in uniform.

The PML-Q leader stated that the media, military and Mazdoor (labour) are important pillars of society and should play their role in making the country stronger.
