ISLAMABAD: Workers are the backbone of the society and Pakistan Peoples Party reiterates its pledge to stand by them in their fight against downsizing and retrenchment in the name of privatisation, former president and PPP co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari said on Wednesday.

“We will use every available forum to resist any move to sack workers from their jobs,” he said in a message issued on the eve of Labour Day.

“Today, PPP reiterates its promise that it will not permit the sacking of workers in the name of privatisation and will strive to not only preserve their existing rights but also expand on the rights and privileges of the working classes,” he said.

“The workers have a right to job security and decent wages as well as an inalienable right to dignity, honour and a rightful place in society,” the former president added, promising to struggle alongside them to attain these rights.
