Under Attack: Police official shot by militants

Locals rushed the injured constable to District Headquarters Hospital, Swabi.

SWABI: Unidentified militants opened fire at a police van in Swabi on Wednesday morning, injuring a police official.

According to DSP Khan Khel Khan, the incident occurred at 7am. Khan said Abdul Aziz, a head constable at City police station, was driving a van from Police Lines to a petrol station when militants on a motorbike intercepted the vehicle near Dagai Laar and opened indiscriminate fire, before fleeing.

The DSP added following the shooting, locals rushed the injured constable to District Headquarters Hospital, Swabi. The doctors referred him to Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar.

“Aziz sustained three bullet wounds,” said Khan. He added a search operation was launched in the area, however, no arrests were made. A case has been filed against unidentified militants and an investigation is under way.
