A bomb planted in a car at the office of the Communication and Works (C&W) department in the city was defused on Wednesday morning.

The explosive-laden car breached all security measures in one of the most sensitive areas of the city, said City DSP Saeed Khan, adding several government installations are situated in the vicinity.

Khan said around 11:30am a government contractor, identified as Ibne Ali, came to meet an official inside the compound in his car and parked it in front of the C&W department.

Meanwhile, police officials along with the bomb disposal unit were checking vehicles when suddenly an official spotted a bomb strapped beneath Ali’s vehicle. The area was immediately cordoned and the bomb was defused.

The DSP said around one kilogramme of explosives were used in the device. According to the car owner, unidentified militants must have attached the bomb. Initial investigation revealed the bomb was strapped to the car outside the premises.
